Sirius-ly Fun Facts
The word Prosirius is a combination of (Pro)fessional and "Sirius", the brightest star in the sky. Which leads us to...
#1 - Sirius has an apparent magnitude of -1.46. The scale is logarithmic and runs backward with the brightest objects assigned negative numbers and fainter objects assigned positive numbers. The North Star, by comparison is +3.7.
#2 - Sirius is a southern star. Some stars in the northern sky appear brighter to those who live in northern locals, but Sirius is still top dog.
#3 - And speaking of dogs, Sirius is also known as the "Dog Star".
#4 - Sirius is, astronomically speaking, darn close at a mere 8.57 light years away.
#5 - Sirius is Greek and translates to "scorcher" because it is so bright. For some reason we like Sirius being the big, bright dog.
